Daily Information, often called Daily Info, is a printed sheet that shares useful news and updates in Oxford, England. You can find it in many places around the University colleges, departments, and some local shops. Since 28 September 1964, it has helped people stay informed about events, reviews, and small advertisements.
Originally, Daily Information was published every day. Today, it comes out on Tuesdays and Fridays during school terms and breaks. It started in a place called Warnborough Road in North Oxford.
Now, Daily Info also has a website that is updated regularly. The printed sheets are based on the information found online, making it easy for everyone to get the latest details about Oxford.
History
Daily Information was started by John Rose in 1964. The first sheet was a small A4 paper. It showed theatre and cinema listings for the coming week. It also let people know how to place announcements for future editions, share news about housing, and sell items.
Rose felt there was a need for quick and easy communication in Oxford during the early 1960s. He found it hard to place ads in local newspapers because offices were closed and it cost a lot. So, he decided to create their own publication where people could place ads by phone right away.
Format
The Daily Information is printed on a large A2 sheet. It has sections like "What's On," "Property," and "Jobs." You can find details about cinema and theatre shows, lectures, and job listings.
It also has special maps of Oxford, a year planner, and a printable calendar.
Website
The Daily Info website started in 1995. Before that, it was on a Wildcat! BBS service. People used modems to connect.
The website gives information about events in Oxford and nearby places. It also has reviews and local advice.
Oxcast
Since 2012, Daily Info has had a podcast. It talks about different cultural topics in Oxford. Some past topics and guests have included Oxjam, the Oxford International Arts Fair, the Oxford Human Rights Fair, Oxford Pride, the Museum of Oxford, and the band Darwin Deez.
