A digital movie camera is a special camera used for making movies. It records movies digitally, saving pictures and sounds as computer files. This makes it easier to edit and share movies later.

These cameras can capture many different video formats, giving filmmakers many choices for how their movie looks and feels.

Because digital movie cameras are easier to use, they have become very popular in the movie industry since the 2000s. Both big studios and small independent filmmakers now use these digital cameras instead of older film cameras. This change has opened up new possibilities for how movies are made and enjoyed by audiences around the world.

Prosumer and consumer cameras

People making movies on their own have used cheap home and hybrid cameras for digital filming. These cameras have smaller sensors and use more compression. They often have lenses that cannot be changed.

The Nikon D90 was the first DSLR that could record videos; it could film in 720p high-definition video with monaural sound. After this, many new DSLRs from Nikon and other companies started including video recording as a regular feature.
