Faranah

Faranah (N’ko: ߝߙߊߣߊ߫߫) is a town and sub-prefecture in central Guinea. It lies by the River Niger.

The town is important because it is along one of West Africa's biggest rivers.

As of 2014, Faranah had 78,108 people. Most people there are from the Malinke people group, one of the largest groups in the area. This makes Faranah a place with rich culture and history.

History

Sékou Touré was born in a small village. When he became president, he helped build important places there, like a mosque, a palace, and a conference centre. The town is near Haut Niger National Park and has its own airport called Faranah Airport.

Climate

Faranah has a tropical savanna climate. The town has warm weather and a wet season, like areas close to big rivers such as the River Niger.

Mining

Faranah is near large areas of iron ore. Iron ore is a kind of rock used to make steel.

Notable residents

One famous person from Faranah is Sayon Camara. She is a singer from Guinea and comes from Dinguiraye.
