The Indian government has received help from many countries and international groups. This help, called foreign aid, comes in many forms such as money, supplies, and support for projects. Foreign aid has been important for India as the country has worked to develop its economy, improve health care, and build infrastructure. Over the years, foreign aid has helped India face challenges like natural disasters and has supported efforts to provide better education and opportunities for its people.
Aid received
In 2010, a British newspaper said that the aid India got was less than 1% of its total economy. India also chose not to accept more foreign aid.
From 1946 to 2012, India got the most aid from the United States. During the second wave of COVID-19 in 2021, India got help from 52 countries. In 2023, the United States gave extra help to support India during the pandemic. In 2025, the U.S. mission in India started looking at its aid programs to follow new rules.
