Ice hockey at the 2002 Winter Olympics – Men's tournament
The men's tournament in ice hockey at the 2002 Winter Olympics was the 20th Olympic championship. It took place in Utah, United States, from February 9 to February 24, 2002. For the second time in a row, the National Hockey League paused its regular season so players could join the tournament. Fourteen countries took part. Eight teams qualified based on their rankings from the 1999 IIHF World Championship, and six more teams earned their spots through qualification.
Canada won the gold medal for the seventh time, beating the United States in the final. This was Canada's first gold medal in a long time. The United States earned silver, their first medal in this event for many years. Russia claimed the bronze medal after defeating Belarus. Canadian player Joe Sakic was named the most valuable player of the tournament.
