International Transportation Service
International Transportation Service, LLC (ITS) started in 1971 at Terminal Island. In 1972, it moved to a new, big terminal on Pier J. This started a long time working with the Port of Long Beach. ITS became a key part of the local business community and a leader in the maritime industry.
In 1986, ITS did something new. It became the first terminal in Southern California to use on-dock double-stack rail. This helped make moving cargo faster. Over the years, ITS kept growing. It made its buildings bigger and improved its systems to handle larger ships and more cargo. The company won awards, like the International Achievement Award in 1991. By 1994, it handled three million containers.
ITS also cared about the environment. In 2006, it signed the Port of Long Beach’s first “Green Lease.” In 2008, it added shore-side electrical power to cut down emissions from ships. In 2020, ITS welcomed the largest ship ever to visit, the ONE Aquila. This showed it could handle very big ships. In 2025, ITS began the South Slip Fill Project. This will add 19 acres of new land, making the terminal 275 acres total. This supports future growth and sustainability.
