Julie Andrews was once called "Britain's youngest prima donna". She had a soprano voice that was light and clear. When she was young, a throat specialist checked her voice and saw that her larynx was almost like an adult's. Even though people suggested she try opera, she thought her voice was too high and thin for it. She liked musical theatre better.
As she got older, her voice changed and her middle notes became warm and golden. She liked to sing happy music and avoided sad songs to keep her voice healthy.
Sadly, Julie Andrews had to stop performing in Victor/Victoria in 1997 because her voice became hoarse. She had surgery, but it caused permanent damage. Her singing voice was never the same again.
