Kellen Moore

Kellen Christopher Moore was born on July 5, 1988. He is an American football coach and was a quarterback before he started coaching. He is now the head coach for the New Orleans Saints in the National Football League (NFL).

When he was in college, Moore played for the Boise State Broncos. He set a record for most wins by a quarterback in college football at the Football Bowl Subdivision level.

Moore played for a few teams, mostly as a backup. He spent a lot of his time with the Dallas Cowboys in 2015. After he stopped playing, he became a coach. He was the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024 and helped them win the Super Bowl LIX. The next year, he became the head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

Early life

Kellen Christopher Moore was born on July 5, 1988, in Prosser, Washington. His father, Tom, was the head coach at Prosser High School and won many league titles and state championships. Every day during football season, Kellen and his younger brother Kirby would go to their father’s football practice. Kellen loved drawing plays and even got to call his own plays in his last two years of high school.

Kellen was very talented in football. He set many state records for passing and led his team to the state semifinals in his senior year. He was also good at basketball and earned many awards for his sports skills. His brother Kirby also played football and later became the head coach at Washington State.

College career

In 2008, Kellen Moore helped the Boise State Broncos have an undefeated regular season and win the WAC championship. He threw 25 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions. He played most of the last game and helped the team win.

In 2009, Moore threw 39 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions. He led the team to a perfect 14–0 record and another WAC title. He played well in the Fiesta Bowl and helped Boise State win. He was named an All-American and won other honors.

In 2010, Moore led the Broncos to a big win over Virginia Tech and was considered for the Heisman Trophy. He ended the season with many passing touchdowns and a very high passer rating. Boise State won the Maaco Bowl Las Vegas.

In 2011, Moore became the top-winning quarterback in FBS history. He threw his 100th touchdown pass early in the season and was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The team lost one game but won the Maaco Bowl Las Vegas again. Moore finished his college career with 49 wins and only 3 losses.

Professional playing career

Kellen Moore had questions about his size and strength before joining the NFL. He was not picked in the 2012 draft but signed with the Detroit Lions. Later, he joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2015.

Moore played a game for the Cowboys when their main quarterback was hurt. He threw his first touchdown but also had some passes picked off. He started a few games and once threw for many yards. However, he hurt his leg and missed some time. He retired from playing in 2018 and was the last left-handed quarterback in the NFL until 2020.

Coaching career

In 2018, Kellen Moore became a quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys after he stopped playing football. In 2019, he was promoted to offensive coordinator and helped the team have a very good offense. He worked with the Cowboys until 2023.

Moore then joined the Los Angeles Chargers as their offensive coordinator but left after one year. In 2024, he became the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, helping them have a great season and win the Super Bowl.

Most recently, in 2025, Moore became the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. In his first season, the team finished with a 6–11 record.
