Kommersant

Kommersant (Russian: Коммерсантъ, IPA: , The Businessman or Commerce Man, often shortened to Ъ) is a daily newspaper from Russia. It shares news about politics and business. Many important people in Russia read it every day.

Kommersant is one of the three main business newspapers in Russia. The other two are called Vedomosti and RBK Daily. These papers are popular for learning about politics and business in Russia.

History

The Kommersant newspaper began in Moscow in 1909 but stopped when the government changed in 1917.

It started again in 1989 when people in Russia could share more ideas. The first new issue came out in January 1990. It was made to be like newspapers from other countries that focus on business news.

Over time, Kommersant became very popular with important business and political people. It began publishing every day in 1992. The newspaper’s name in Russian ends with a special letter that doesn’t say anything when spoken. This is shown in its logo.

In 2008, a news group called BBC News said Kommersant was one of Russia’s main newspapers for business people.
