Lassi is a yogurt-based drink that has a smoothie-like consistency. The name "lassi" comes from the Punjabi and Hindi-Urdu words for yogurt mixed with water.

It is made by blending yogurt, water, and spices. In the Punjab region where it started, the yogurt is usually made from water buffalo milk. People often add salt, cumin, or cardamom to give it different flavors.

Traditionally, lassi is served in a special clay cup called a kulhar. Today, this refreshing drink is enjoyed in many parts of the world.

Varieties

Lassi comes in many tasty flavors! Namkin lassi is salty and includes ingredients like salt, black pepper, cumin, and sugar. Lassi masalewal is spicy and adds almonds, ginger, green chilies, and pistachios. Meethi lassi is sweet and uses cardamom, rosewater, and saffron. Some people enjoy lassi with fruits like mangos and strawberries mixed in.
