Lighthouse Point is a suburb of Fort Lauderdale in Broward County, Florida, United States. It was named after the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse, which stands in nearby Hillsboro Beach. The city is part of the busy Miami metropolitan area in South Florida.
In 2020, Lighthouse Point had a population of 10,486 people. It is a peaceful place close to the ocean, making it a popular spot for families and visitors who enjoy the beach and nearby attractions.
Geography
Lighthouse Point is a small city that covers 2.4 square miles. Most of it is land, with a little water. It is located in the northeastern part of Broward County.
The city is near several other places. To the north is Deerfield Beach, to the east is Hillsboro Beach across the Intracoastal Waterway, and to the west and south is Pompano Beach. Many homes in Lighthouse Point are built along canals, so boating and fishing are popular. Boats can travel from the Hillsboro Inlet to the Bahamas, reaching Bimini in about 40 miles or Grand Bahama in about 60 miles.
Demographics
Lighthouse Point had a population of 10,486 as of the 2020 census. The median age was 53.5 years, and many people were aged 65 or older. Most people lived in urban areas, and many households had just one person.
In the year 2000, the median income for a family was $72,418. Most people spoke Spanish, and many spoke English as their first language.

Media
Lighthouse Point is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood media market. This is a big area for radio and TV in the United States. The main daily newspapers are the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and The Miami Herald, along with their Spanish-language versions El Sentinel and El Nuevo Herald.
Every month, each home, apartment, and business in Lighthouse Point gets a lifestyle magazine called "Lighthouse Point." It is made and sent out by publishers Susan and Richard Rosser.
Education
Broward County Public Schools serves the community. Students in Lighthouse Point go to Norcrest Elementary School in Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach Middle School, and Deerfield Beach High School in Deerfield Beach. The area is also served by Pompano Beach High School, which is a magnet school.
North Broward Preparatory School was in Lighthouse Point when it started in 1957, but it is not there anymore.
Lighthouse Point Library
The Doreen Gauthier Lighthouse Point Library opened in 1965 to help people learn and enjoy reading. It began in a small room and grew with more books and services each year.
Today, the library has many things like books, computers, and online resources. It has over 40,000 books to borrow, places to study, and technology for everyone to use. The library also has special learning stations for kids and digital tools for research and fun.
Notable people
Lighthouse Point has been home to many interesting people. Paul Castronovo was a well-known radio personality. Ben Klassen started a religion called Creativity. Bruce Nickells was a driver in harness racing. Mike Phipps was honored for his achievements in college football. John Spadavecchia became a professional poker player.
