List of Michelin-starred restaurants in Malta
In the 2026 Michelin Guide, seven restaurants in Malta earned a special award called a Michelin star.
The Michelin Guides started in 1900 by a French tire company. At first, they helped drivers find good places to eat while traveling. By the 1920s, Michelin began sending secret inspectors to restaurants.
Before a restaurant gets a star, it is visited many times by different anonymous inspectors. They look at five important things: the quality of the food, how well the flavors are mixed, how the chefβs style shows in the food, how balanced the flavors are, and if the food stays the same each time you visit. Inspectors have at least ten years of experience. If they all agree, a restaurant can get one, two, or three stars.
The Michelin Guide for Malta started in 2020, thanks to help from the Malta Tourism Authority. Since 2023, each restaurant with a Michelin star has sent a chef to a special event called Dine with the Stars. This event helps raise money for the Malta Community Chest Fund.
