Chile is in a place where the ground moves a lot because of the fast-moving Nazca plate. This causes Chile to have many earthquakes.

Since the year 1500, Chile has had about one-third of the world's biggest earthquakes.

Some places in Chile have felt big earthquakes more than once. For example, areas like Arica, Valparaíso, Concepción, and Valdivia have had major quakes happen in different years.

The strongest earthquake ever recorded happened in Chile in 1960. This was near the city of Valdivia and it was the most powerful earthquake ever measured.

Chile is in an area where the ground moves a lot, which causes earthquakes. Since the year 1500, many very big earthquakes have happened around the world, and about one-third of them occurred in Chile.
