List of heads of government of the Central African Republic
There have been twenty-five heads of government of the Central African Republic and the Central African Empire. The job of prime minister, the head of government, began when the Central African Republic became an autonomous territory of France in December 1958. It was the top job at that time, even though France still had a governor there.
After the Central African Republic became independent on 13 August 1960, David Dacko held both the prime minister and president of the Central African Republic jobs for a short time. He then removed the prime minister position and put all the executive power in the president's hands.
President Jean-Bédel Bokassa brought back the prime minister job in 1975 to help him govern. He chose Elisabeth Domitien as prime minister, who became Africa's first female head of government. The prime minister position as we know it today was recreated in 1991, when President Andre Kolingba had to share some of his power. The current prime minister of the Central African Republic is Félix Moloua, who started on 7 February 2022.
