National Assembly (Democratic Republic of the Congo)

Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience

The National Assembly is the main group that helps make laws in the Parliament of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It works together with another group called the Senate. People in the country choose leaders called deputies to be in the National Assembly. These deputies talk for the people and help create new laws. They also watch over the leaders who run the government to make sure they do a good job.

The National Assembly was started by the rules set in the 2006 constitution. This constitution said there would be two groups making laws: the National Assembly and the Senate. The National Assembly meets in a big building called the People's Palace in the city of Kinshasa.

The first meeting of the new National Assembly for the years 2024 to 2028 will happen on January 29, 2024. At this meeting, 477 deputies who were chosen to serve will be there.

Electoral system

The National Assembly is chosen every five years by all eligible voters. In the 2023 elections, 484 seats were given to 179 different areas based on how many people were registered to vote. Sixteen more seats were saved for three areas that could not vote because of safety issues. The Assembly has 65 members chosen from single-area races and 435 members chosen from larger areas with many candidates.
