Nicaragua at the 2016 Summer Olympics
Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
Nicaragua competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's thirteenth time taking part in the Summer Olympics. Nicaragua did not attend the 1988 Summer Olympics because it supported a boycott led by North Korea.
The Nicaragua Olympic Committee sent the smallest group of athletes to these Games since 2004 Summer Olympics. Only five athletes went, three men and two women, and they competed in four different sports. Most of these athletes were new to the Olympics, except for butterfly swimmer Dalia Torrez Zamora. She was 26 years old and had been to two other Olympics before. The youngest athlete was air pistol shooter Rafael Lacayo, who was 17. He carried Nicaragua's flag during the opening ceremony. So far, Nicaragua has not won any Olympic medals.
