Nippes is the fifth borough of the city of Cologne in Germany. It became part of the city in 1888, and the district was created in 1975.

In the north-eastern part of Nippes, called Niehl, there is a large car factory where Ford Europe builds its vehicles.

Nippes touches several other parts of Cologne. To the north, it borders Chorweiler, to the east it meets Mülheim, to the south it is next to Innenstadt, and to the south-west, it connects with Ehrenfeld.

Transport

Nippes has many ways to help people travel. You can take the train at stations like Köln-Nippes, Köln Geldernstraße/Parkgürtel, and Köln-Longerich. There are also many stops for the city’s special buses called Cologne Stadtbahn on lines 12, 15, 16, and 18. A big road called Bundesautobahn 57 links Nippes to the Cologne motorway ring.

Notable people

Nippes has been home to some well-known people. Fritz Schramma, who was born in 1947, served as the mayor of Cologne from 2000 until 2009. Another notable person is Gaby Köster, born in 1961, who is an actress and cabaret artist.
