Oranjestad is the capital and largest town of the island of Sint Eustatius in the Caribbean Netherlands. It has about 1,038 people.

The town's name means "Orange Town" in Dutch. It is important for the island's residents, offering government services and community activities.

Oranjestad is known for its beautiful views and rich history. It is an interesting place to learn about Caribbean life and culture.

Geography

Oranjestad is a historic harbor town with two main parts. Lower Town is near the water and has old buildings, dive shops, and the island’s safest beach. Upper Town is the main area for shops and homes, with a restored historic center between special natural parks.

Neighborhoods of Oranjestad include Golden Rock and Bay Brow.

History

People first came to the island between 1625 and 1629. The island grew by making sugar and cotton, and it became a busy place for trade.

A key sight in Oranjestad is Fort Oranje, a strong fort from the 1600s in the middle of town. It has old cannons and parts you can walk around. Nearby are the remains of one of the oldest places of worship for Jewish people in the Western Hemisphere, as well as a quiet area where people were once buried.

The town also has an old church built in 1755, parts of old houses from long ago, and beautiful spots to explore underwater where pieces of old buildings can be seen.

Oranjestad has many useful places such as grocery stores, restaurants, bars, a library, schools, a clinic, and the government's administrative offices.
