Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, London
Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church is a Roman Catholic church in Fulham, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. It was designed by Benedict Williamson, an architect who later became a Catholic priest. The church is on Stephendale Road, and its parish house is nearby on Tynemouth Street. This lovely building is a place where people come to worship and meet together.
Interior
The church has tall columns and arches that let in lots of light, making it feel grand. It was built after the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb in Egypt, so some details inside show interest in Egyptian art from that time. The Stations of the Cross have special thoughts for reflection.
History
In 1914, a local lady lost her son during the First World War. To remember him, she bought an old rubbish tip in 1922 and built the church of Our Lady there. She gave a silver cup to the first baby baptized there and furniture to the first couple who got married. The church has been a parish church ever since.
