Paleo-Balkan languages

The Paleo-Balkan languages are a group of old languages that were spoken in the Balkans and nearby areas. These languages include Dacian, Greek, Illyrian, Messapic, Paeonian, Phrygian, and Thracian. They all belong to the big family of Indo-European languages, which also includes many languages spoken today.
We learn about these old languages mostly from writings in Ancient Greek and a few other sources. Scientists still talk about how these languages might be related. Some think they could share a special connection, but there is no clear proof that they all came from one single ancestor language spoken in the Balkans.
Over time, many of these ancient languages disappeared. This happened because areas in the Balkans were influenced by Greek, Roman, and Slavic cultures. Today, the only languages from this group that are still spoken are Greek and Albanian. Albanian might have come from Illyrian or from a language very similar to it.
Classification
The Paleo-Balkan languages were old languages spoken in the Balkans and nearby lands. They included Albanian, Messapic, Dacian, Moesian, Getic, Thracian, Paeonian, Armenian, Ancient Greek, and Phrygian, among others.
Experts are still figuring out how these languages connect to each other and to other Indo-European languages. Some think Illyrian might be related to Messapian, Venetic, and Liburnian, but this is not certain. Studying these languages is hard because there are only a few surviving words and names to look at.
Balkanic Indo-European
Some scholars think that the Paleo-Balkan languages were part of a special group called "Balkanic" Indo-European languages. This group includes Armenian, Graeco-Phrygian (which combines Hellenic and Phrygian), and "Illyric" (which combines Albanian and Messapian).
These languages share special word endings and words. For example, they all have a special way of saying the word for "goat." This shows that these languages have a common history. They also share words related to bees and honey, showing they evolved together after the ancient Indo-European language split apart.
