Panglong Agreement

The Panglong Agreement was an important meeting that happened on February 12, 1947, in a place called Panglong in Southern Shan State. It was between the Burmese government, led by a man named Aung San, and three groups of people: the Shan, Kachin, and Chin Committees.

This agreement promised that these groups would have their own control over certain areas and decisions. Because of this, every year people celebrate Union Day to remember what was agreed upon that day. The meeting showed that different groups in Burma wanted to work together while keeping some of their own traditions and ways of living.

In popular culture

In 1973, a musician named Sai Kham Leik made a popular song called "Lik Hom Mai Panglong" in the Shan language. He made the song for another musician, Sai Hsai Mao. Many people still love this song today.
