Pinewood, Florida

Pinewood is a small community in Miami-Dade County, Florida, part of the big Miami metropolitan area in South Florida. It is not a city with its own government, but a place recognized by the government for counting people and planning.
In the year 2020, about 17,246 people lived in Pinewood. Most of Pinewood used to be a neighborhood in the City of Miami. It became part of Miami in 1925, but later, during the Great Depression, Miami could no longer manage it, and Pinewood became its own area within Miami-Dade County.
Geography
Pinewood is located about 8 miles north of downtown Miami. It borders North Miami to the north and Miami Shores to the east, with other areas nearby to the south and west.
The area covers 1.9 square miles, mostly land with a small part of water.

2020 census
In the 2020 census, Pinewood had 17,246 people. The average age was 37.7 years. About 23.4% were younger than 18, and 16.2% were 65 or older. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males.
All residents lived in urban areas. There were 5,594 homes, with 36.4% having children under 18. About 32.2% were homes with married couples, 21.5% had a male living alone, and 39.4% had a female living alone. Around 23.8% of homes were for one person.
There were 5,836 places to live, with 4.1% empty. The rate of empty owned homes was 1.1%, and the rate of empty rented homes was 3.5%.

2010 census
The 2010 United States census recorded 16,520 people, 5,075 homes, and 3,479 families in Pinewood.
2000 census
According to the 2000 census, Pinewood had 16,523 people, 5,029 homes, and 3,686 families. The population density was 9,621.4 people per square mile (3,714.8/km2). There were 5,329 places to live.
In 2000, the racial makeup was 19.26% White (with 3.6% being Non-Hispanic White), 71.05% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 3.59% from other races, and 5.50% from two or more races. Latino people made up 22.85% of the population.
In 2000, 41.0% of homes had children under 18, 36.3% were married couples, 28.5% had a female living alone, and 26.7% were not families. About 21.7% of homes were for one person. The average number of people per home was 3.25.
The age spread in 2000 was 32.1% under 18, 11.2% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% 65 or older. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.6 males.
In 2000, the average income for a home was $24,949, and for a family, it was $26,548. Males earned $22,439 on average, while females earned $18,046. The per capita income was $10,169. About 30.2% of families and 33.5% of all people lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, 47.40% of people spoke English as their first language, 28.93% spoke French Creole, 22.09% spoke Spanish, and 1.56% spoke French.
