The Refugee Olympic Team is a special group of athletes who are refugees. They compete in the Olympic Games as independent participants. This shows that everyone deserves a chance to play sports, no matter where they come from.

In March 2016, the International Olympic Committee announced the creation of this team to raise awareness about the difficult situations many refugees face around the world.

The team uses the Olympic flag and Olympic Hymn as its symbols. In the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics, the Refugee Olympic Team marched into the stadium just before the host country. At later Olympics, like the 2020 and 2024 games, the team entered right after Greece.

At the 2016 Olympics, the team used the code ROT. In 2020, this changed to EOR, short for the French words for "Refugee Olympic Team." So far, no athletes from this team have competed in the Winter Olympics or the Youth Olympics.

The Refugee Olympic Team received the 2022 Princess of Asturias Award for Sport. This award recognized how the team helps athletes from difficult places continue their sports and personal growth. One famous member, Cindy Ngamba, a refugee from Cameroon, won a bronze medal in boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics, becoming the first athlete to win a medal for the Refugee Olympic Team.
