Saudi Arabia at the 2016 Summer Olympics

Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience

Saudi Arabia joined the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to August 21, 2016. This was the eleventh time the country was in the Olympic Games. The Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee picked eleven athletes—seven men and four women—to compete in five sports. This was a big step because it had twice as many women athletes as four years before in London.

The team included discus thrower Sultan Mubarak Al-Dawoodi and runners Moukhled Al-Outaibi and Sarah Attar, who had also raced in past Olympics. The other athletes were new to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Judoka Sulaiman Hamad carried the flag for the team during the opening ceremony.

Even though the athletes tried their best, Saudi Arabia did not win any medals at these Games. This was new because the country’s equestrian jumping team, which had helped win medals before, was not there this time.
