Saudi Arabia at the 2022 Winter Olympics
Saudi Arabia joined the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, from February 4 to February 20. This was the first time the country took part in the Winter Olympics. The team had only one member, a male alpine skier named Fayik Abdi.
Fayik Abdi carried Saudi Arabia’s flag during the opening ceremony. During the closing ceremony, a volunteer carried the flag. It was a special moment as Saudi Arabia started its adventure in winter sports.

Background
In early 2021, the Saudi Winter Sports Federation asked for skiers and snowboarders to represent the country at the Olympics. About 100 people applied from around the world, including people with Saudi heritage living outside the country. Eight athletes were chosen to train to qualify for the Olympic games.

Saudi Arabia sent one male alpine skier to the 2022 Winter Olympics. Two skiers met the standards, but Fayik Abdi was chosen to represent the country.
