The Joseph A. Sellinger, S.J. School of Business and Management is the business school of Loyola University Maryland, in Baltimore, Maryland. It began in 1980 and was named for Reverend Joseph A. Sellinger, S.J., a past president of the university. The university had offered business courses for over 70 years before the school was created.
The Sellinger School has seven departments. These are Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Systems and Operations Management, Management and International Business, Marketing, and Law & Social Responsibility. It is one of three schools at Loyola University Maryland. The other two schools are the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education.
History
Loyola College started offering business courses in 1937, and the first business degree was given in 1943. In 1980, the School of Business and Management was created, and in 1984, it was named after Reverend Joseph A. Sellinger, S.J.
The school added special programs for experienced business leaders and earned recognition for its teaching. In 2000, it moved into a new, modern building. Over the years, the school has had several leaders guiding its growth.
Jesuit Education
Loyola University Maryland is a Jesuit Catholic university. It helps students learn, lead, and serve. All students take basic classes in subjects like English, philosophy, theology, history, art, languages, math, science, and social sciences. The university has special programs to support its mission.
Academics

The Sellinger School of Business and Management was ranked 124th among the best business schools in the United States by U.S. News & World Report. Its part-time MBA program was ranked 87th for 2024. The Princeton Review also included Sellinger on their list of best business schools for 2023. Loyola’s Executive MBA program was recognized as one of the top five programs for physicians by The Health Finance Report. The school has AACSB accreditation in both business and accounting.
Facility
The Joseph A. Sellinger, S.J., School of Business and Management Building opened in January 2000. It is a big building with special learning spaces, offices for teachers, and many classrooms. The building has a tall glass front, a tall glass tower, and a large open area in the middle. It is located next to Maryland Hall on the main part of the college campus.
Notable alumni

One well-known graduate is Harry Markopolos. He worked as a chief investment officer and helped reveal important information about Bernard Madoff.
