Borough 7 - Sendling-Westpark: Location in Munich

Location

Sendling-Westpark is located southwest of Munich. It stretches from the 8th borough Schwanthalerhöhe to Obersendling, which is part of Thalkirchen-Obersendling-Forstenried-Fürstenried-Solln. The eastern edge is marked by the S-Bahn line to Wolfratshausen, connecting it to borough 6, Sendling. In the west, the streets Fürstenriederstrasse and Westendstrasse are borders, with boroughs 20 Hadern and 25 Laim beyond them.

Description

Sendling-Westpark is the 7th borough of Munich. Between 1950 and 1995, many new people moved to the area, so the population grew a lot. Even with all these new residents, the number of people from other countries living there is still lower than in other parts of the area.

Westpark

In the southern part of Sendling-Westpark, many houses were built between the wars. Near the big roads, tall apartment buildings were constructed after 1948. Some important places in the borough include a home for older people, a workshop for people with disabilities, a center to help people with cerebral palsy, a school for people who are deaf, and the main offices of big car clubs like the ADAC and TÜV.

Several major highways run through the borough, connecting Munich to places like Lindau and Garmisch. This brings a lot of traffic, which causes some worries about the environment. The area was changed a lot for a big display in 1983, creating a park with space for movies, plays, concerts, food, a Buddhist temple, play areas, and more.

In the northern part of this park is the Rudi Sedlmayer Hall, which used to host many cultural and sports events. Today, it is where the FC Bayern Munich Basketball team plays and is now called the Audi Dome.
