Sopana Sangeetham

Sopana Sangeetham is a beautiful style of Indian classical music that began in the temples of Kerala, a state in south India. This special kind of music grew popular around the same time that a famous poem called the Gita Govinda or Ashtapadis by a poet named Jayadeva became very well-loved.

The music of Sopana Sangeetham is closely tied to the traditions of these temples, where it was performed as part of religious ceremonies. It uses steps or "sopanams" to move smoothly between notes, which gives it its name. This form of music is not only a way to make beautiful sounds, but also a way to tell stories and connect people with their cultural heritage.

Today, Sopana Sangeetham is still practiced and enjoyed by many, showing how important temple music is in the culture of Kerala. It is a wonderful example of how music can bring people together in celebration and worship.
