The [South Shore](/wiki/South_Shore_(disambiguation) of Massachusetts is a beautiful area that stretches south and east from Boston toward Cape Cod. It runs along the shores of Massachusetts Bay and Cape Cod Bay. This region includes many towns and cities in eastern Norfolk and Plymouth counties.
The South Shore is known for being a wealthy place. It has many families with good jobs and nice homes.
The area is also special because it has many people whose families came from Ireland. In fact, the South Shore has the largest group of Irish-American people in Massachusetts. Some people even call it the Irish Riviera because of this strong connection to Irish culture.
Geography
The South Shore of Massachusetts is a place along the coast from Boston to Cape Cod. It includes many towns and cities next to the water. Some people say the South Shore starts right after Boston and goes all the way to Cape Cod. Others think it ends before reaching Cape Cod. Because of this, different groups may include different towns when they talk about the South Shore. Some towns often included are Braintree, Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Kingston, Marshfield, Plymouth, Quincy, Scituate, and Weymouth.
The area is generally quite well-off and has many homes near the ocean. Different groups may have slightly different ideas about exactly which towns belong to the South Shore.
Education
The South Shore of Massachusetts has several colleges and universities. Some of these schools are Curry College in Milton, Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massasoit Community College in Brockton and Canton, and Quincy College in Quincy. These schools offer different programs for students.
Sites of interest
The South Shore of Massachusetts has many interesting places to visit. You can explore the Captain Benjamin James House and Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum in Scituate. It is a historic house and museum.
In Marshfield, visit the Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary and the North River Wildlife Sanctuary. Both are beautiful places for nature lovers.
Other notable spots include Fort Revere Park in Hull. It is a historic park on a small peninsula. In Scituate Center, see Lawson Tower. The tower looks like a European castle.
Donβt miss the Old Scituate Light lighthouse on Cedar Point, the Worlds End park in Hingham, and Nantasket Beach in Hull.
