The Supreme Soviet of the Georgian SSR was the main government group in the Georgian SSR from 1938 until 1990. It helped make big decisions for the country during that time. In Georgian, it is called α‘αα₯αα αααααα‘ α‘α‘α -αα‘ α£ααα¦ααα‘α α‘αααα, and in Russian, it is called ΠΠ΅ΡΡ ΠΎΠ²Π½ΡΠΉ Π‘ΠΎΠ²Π΅Ρ ΠΡΡΠ·ΠΈΠ½ΡΠΊΠΎΠΉ Π‘Π‘Π . This group was the highest organ of state authority, so it had a lot of power over the government and the people living there.
History
The Supreme Soviet of the Georgian SSR started after the All-Georgian Congress of Soviets, which worked from 1922 to 1937. It had one group of leaders called deputies β 250 of them, though before 1990 there were 440. These deputies served for five years, but in 1978, this changed to four years.
In 1990, new elections were held on October 28, called the 1990 Georgian Supreme Soviet election. This was the first time people from different parties could vote, and it marked when the Supreme Soviet began to truly control the government. For most of its time, it was mostly led by the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the Communist Party of Georgia.
