Suriname first joined the Olympic Games in 1960 and has sent athletes to most Summer Olympic Games since then, except for the 1964 Games and the 1980 Games. In 1980, Suriname did not join because of a disagreement about where the event was held. Suriname has never taken part in the Winter Olympic Games.
The country has won two Olympic medals, both earned by swimmer Anthony Nesty. His achievements make Suriname very proud.
The National Olympic Committee for Suriname was created in 1959 and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee the same year. This committee helps organize and support Suriname's Olympic teams.
