TV Globo is a big television network in Brazil. It started on April 26, 1965, when a man named Roberto Marinho launched it. Today, it is owned by the Globo group, which is part of a larger company called Grupo Globo.

TV Globo is the largest TV network in Latin America. It makes many popular shows, especially a type of drama called telenovelas.

The network has its main office in Rio de Janeiro and many studios there too. It has five main TV stations in Brazil and works with many others across the country. TV Globo makes thousands of hours of shows and news each year and reaches almost everyone in Brazil. It is known for making high-quality programs and has won many international awards.

TV Globo is famous for its telenovelas, which are like long-running soap operas. These shows air every night and are very popular. The network also has a main news program called Jornal Nacional. History

TV Globo started with a newspaper called O Globo in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1900s. In 1944, Rádio Globo began broadcasting news all day. In 1957, the president of Brazil allowed Rádio Globo to start a TV channel.

TV Globo began broadcasting on April 26, 1965, in Rio de Janeiro. It grew quickly, buying more stations and becoming Brazil’s largest TV network. Over the years, it made popular shows and covered big events like the World Cup and the Olympics.

In the 1980s and 1990s, TV Globo made loved children’s shows and dramas. It also started news channels and special events. By the 2000s, it faced competition but kept making successful programs. TV Globo is very powerful in Brazil and some people believe it can shape what people think. During a big election in 1989, the TV showed parts of a debate between candidates in a way that helped one of them, Fernando Collor de Mello.

In 1994, a court made Globo’s main news show read a message from a governor named Leonel Brizola after he said the network had said bad things about him.

In 2016, there was talk about Globo changing the winner of a carnival contest because of her skin color. The network said this wasn’t true.

Logo and identity

TV Globo has had many different logos since it started. The first logo was used on April 26, 1965, and was designed by Aloísio Magalhães. Over the years, the logo changed many times. In 1966, a new logo with a circle was made by Borjalo. By 1976, the logo showed a globe inside a TV screen, designed by Hans Donner. This globe logo has been used in many ways since then.

The logo has been updated often to look modern and work well on different screens. In 2021, the network changed its name to TV Globo and made a new logo. In December 2024, the logo colors were updated to celebrate special events. Since April 2025, an older rainbow-colored logo has been used again to represent the whole network.

Availability

TV Globo can be watched on regular TV and digital TV in both regular definition and high definition. In 2007, it began offering high definition in some big cities like São Paulo, and more cities joined later.

Globo has its own TV stations in big cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. It also works with other stations around the country to reach almost the whole country. For places that can't get TV signals directly, Globo used to send signals through satellites, but stopped in 2024. It now uses a new digital service for these areas.
