Telecommunications in France

Telecommunications in France are very advanced and help people stay connected. France uses many different ways to send information, including special cables under the ground and in the air, as well as satellites in space. People in France can make calls and send messages almost anywhere in the country, and even to other countries, thanks to a wide network of phones and mobile devices. These systems make it easy for families, friends, and businesses to share ideas and stay in touch.
Fixed-line telephony
France has a strong telephone system with many modern parts like digital telephone exchanges, mobile switching centres, media gateways, and signalling gateways. These parts are connected using different ways to send information, such as fibre-optics and Microwave radio relay networks. The system that brings telephone service to homes uses many kinds of technology, including wires, fibre, and wireless methods. The main company providing this service is the former state-owned France Telecom.
By 2009, France had about 36.4 million telephone lines in use, with most of them located in metropolitan France.
International connection
France uses satellite earth stations to connect with other places. It has 2 Intelsat stations (with 5 antennas for the Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean), some Eutelsat stations, and 1 Inmarsat station for the Atlantic Ocean area. It also uses radio to talk with more than 20 countries.
Radio
France has a strong system for radio communications. The country uses many ways to connect people, like special cables and signals that travel through the air. Mobile phones are very common in France and keep getting better. They let people talk and connect, even when they travel to other countries.
Television
France has a good system for watching television. Many homes get TV through modern networks using special cables and signals. There are also satellite systems for watching TV. Mobile phones with TV can be used almost anywhere.
Internet
France has very advanced telecommunications. The country uses many telephone exchanges connected by modern networks. These networks include fiber-optic cables, coaxial cables, microwave radio relays, and a domestic satellite system. Cellphone service is widely available and growing fast. It even lets users connect to networks in other countries.
Mobile networks
France has four main mobile networks: Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom, and Free. These networks let people make calls and use the internet on their phones. Before Free started in 2012, there were fewer mobile companies in France.
Many smaller companies, called MVNOs, also use these networks to offer their own services. This helps create more choices for customers. France also has a satellite system called TELECOM 1 to help companies send data quickly over long distances.
