Transport UK London Bus

Transport UK London Bus, formerly known as Abellio London, is a bus company that operates in Greater London and parts of Surrey. It is part of the Transport UK Group and runs its services with the support of Transport for London.

The company helps millions of people travel around the city every day. People use these buses to get to work, school, or to visit friends and family. The buses have many different routes. They connect important places like schools, hospitals, shops, and parks. This makes public transport a convenient choice for people living in or visiting London.

History

Transport UK London Bus started in June 1998 when National Express began running bus routes C1 and (/wiki/London_Buses_route_211) under the name Travel London. Over time, the company changed owners several times. In May 2009, National Express sold Travel London to Abellio, and the company was renamed Abellio London in October 2009.

In February 2023, Abellio’s UK businesses were sold to the Transport UK Group. The new group started changing the name from Abellio London to Transport UK London Bus in early 2024, and the new name became official on March 2, 2024.

Garages and routes

Transport UK London Bus runs its bus routes from six garages. Beddington, Battersea, and Walworth are managed by Transport UK London Bus Limited. Twickenham, Armstrong Way, and Hayes are managed by Transport UK West London Bus Limited.

Armstrong Way garage serves several bus routes. Battersea garage also operates many routes and began running route 159 in December 2015. Beddington garage runs a variety of routes too. Hayes garage covers a few specific routes. Twickenham garage operates many routes, and in October 2021, route 290 moved to London United. Walworth garage, originally a tram depot, now runs many bus routes and was reopened in 2005 with solar panels for power.

Former garages

Southall garage started on 29 July 2017. Some bus routes moved there from Hayes. In July 2019, it was replaced by a new garage called Armstrong Way.

Hayes garage closed in late 2021. Its bus routes moved to Armstrong Way garage. Hayes used to operate many London bus routes. It moved to a new location on Dawley Road in 2021.
