Unity Tower

Unity Tower is a very tall building in Kraków, Poland. It is 102.5 metres high and the second-tallest building in the city, after K1. The building is near the Mogilskie Roundabout and Kraków University of Economics.

Before it was finished, the building looked like a skeleton because it took many years to complete. People called it "Skeletor." Construction began in the 1970s, but it stopped for many years. Work started again in 2016, and the building was finished on 30 September 2020.

History

The Unity Tower was first planned in 1975 to be a regional office called the NOT Tower. Building started but stopped in 1979 because of money problems and political trouble. People called it the Skeletor because it looked like a skeleton.

Over the years, many ideas came up for what to do with the building. Some wanted to turn it into apartments, while others thought it could be a hotel. But each plan fell through because of legal issues or high costs.

In 2007, there was a new plan to make the building taller. But this idea was turned down to protect the historic area.

Finally, in 2018, work began to rebuild the tower. The old floors were taken out and new ones put in, but the steel frame stayed the same. The new design looked like buildings from the 1920s and 1930s, using grey stone and inspired by the Maccabees Building.
