Vaduz Cathedral

Vaduz Cathedral, also called the Cathedral of St. Florin, is a beautiful neo-Gothic church in Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein. It is the main church for the Archdiocese of Vaduz. It was first built as a simple parish church and became a cathedral in 1997. Since then, it has been an important place for people in Liechtenstein to visit and learn about.

History

Vaduz Cathedral was built in 1874 by Friedrich von Schmidt. It stands where older medieval buildings once were. The cathedral's patron saint is Florinus of Remüs, a saint from the 9th century who lived in the Vinschgau Valley.

In 1997, Pope John Paul II created the Archdiocese of Vaduz. Before that, it was part of the Swiss Diocese of Chur. A special ceremony to mark this change happened on December 12, 1997. The cathedral is also used for important events, like weddings. In August 2025, Princess Marie Caroline, the granddaughter of Prince Hans Adam, got married there.

The Princely Crypt of the House of Liechtenstein is next to Vaduz Cathedral. People can visit it on All Saints Day, which is November 1st.
