Votanikos

Votanikos (Greek: Βοτανικός, pronounced ) is a neighborhood in Athens, Greece. It is named after a garden nearby called the Athens Botanical Gardens. The area has two main parts: the eastern side has mostly homes, while the western side has many trees and factories.
Important streets around Votanikos include Patsi Street to the west, Athinon Avenue to the north, Konstantinopouleos Avenue and a rail line to the south, and Petrou Rally Avenue also to the south. A major road called Iera Odos runs through the middle of the neighborhood.
The neighborhood is small, covering about 0.5 km2, and has many people living there. There are no squares or parks inside Votanikos, but there is a school nearby.
Neighboring quarters
Votanikos is near several other areas of Athens. To the north is Akadimia Platonos. To the northeast is Profitis Daniil. To the south are Asyrmatos and Kato Petralona.
History
The Votanikos area began to grow in the early 1900s as Athens got bigger. Many homes were built then. After World War 2 and the Greek Civil War, taller buildings were added, including some for factories.
Panathinaikos Stadium
The area will be home to the largest football stadium in Greece. The Votanikos Stadium will hold 40,000 people. It will be surrounded by a large park and other Panathinaikos facilities.
Athens Mosque
Athens is building its first mosque in the Votanikos area. The mosque is being built on an old navy base. The building will be about 1,000 square meters and will have space for around 300 to 400 people.
