West Sweden

West Sweden (Swedish: Västsverige or Västra Sverige) is a special part of Sweden called a national area (riksområde). It is one of several ways that Sweden is divided for studying and planning. This area is part of the NUTS statistical regions of Sweden. West Sweden includes many cities and areas known for their history, culture, and natural beauty.

Geography

West Sweden is in the south-west part of Sweden. It is centered around Västra Götaland County and the city of Gothenburg. After Stockholm, it is the second most populated area of the country. It shares borders with Norway and other regions like North Middle Sweden, East Middle Sweden, Småland and the islands, and South Sweden.

Some of the biggest cities in West Sweden include Gothenburg, Borås, Halmstad, Vänersborg, Uddevalla, Trollhättan, Mölndal, Skövde, Varberg, Kungsbacka, and Lidköping.

Subdivision

West Sweden has two counties: Halland and Västra Götaland. The biggest city in Halland is Halmstad. The biggest city in Västra Götaland is Gothenburg.

Economy

The Gross domestic product (GDP) of West Sweden was 101 billion € in 2021. This was a big part of Sweden's economy. In that year, the money value for each person was 36,000 €. This was a bit more than the average for EU countries. Also, the money made by each worker was a bit more than the EU average.
