Westfield World Trade Center
Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
Westfield World Trade Center is a large shopping mall in the World Trade Center area of Manhattan, New York City. It is managed by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.
The mall opened on August 16, 2016. It is the largest shopping area in Manhattan, with 125 stores for people to visit.
Before this mall was built, there was an older shopping place called The Mall at the World Trade Center. It was located underground at the original World Trade Center. This older mall was destroyed during sad events in September 11, 2001 attacks. The new Westfield World Trade Center was built to replace it and give the community a lovely place to shop again.
Original mall (1975–2001)
The Mall at the World Trade Center was a shopping area under the World Trade Center in New York City. It opened in 1975 and was the biggest mall in the city at the time. You could find many stores there, like Borders, The Children's Place, J.Crew, and Gap, along with places to eat.
Sadly, this mall was destroyed during the events of September 11, 2001. When a plane hit the nearby towers, many people inside the mall had to run for safety. The mall was badly damaged and could not be fixed, so it was torn down. Some fun statues from a store were saved and moved to museums.
Current mall (2016–present)
The Westfield World Trade Center mall has a lot of shopping space. It has two levels. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is nearby.
Construction began in 2007. Westfield Corporation helped build and manage the mall in 2012. The mall opened on August 16, 2016, with many stores and a food court. Famous singers John Legend and Leslie Odom Jr. helped celebrate the opening. More stores came later, but some spaces were still empty.
