Yulee is a place in Nassau County, Florida, in the United States. In 2020, more people lived there than in 2010.

Yulee is part of the bigger area known as the Jacksonville metropolitan statistical area.

Many people who live in Yulee travel to work in nearby places such as Jacksonville, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, and parts of Southeast Georgia. The area is close to many interesting spots, including Amelia Island, Jacksonville International Airport, and Florida State College at Jacksonville's Nassau Center. It is also near natural areas like White Oak Conservation and the Nassau Wildlife Management Area.

Yulee gets many of its services from the Jacksonville Transportation Authority and has its own Yulee Branch Library. The Florida Welcome Center along Interstate 95 is also nearby, making it a convenient spot for travelers.

History

A post office named Yulee has existed since 1893. The community was named after David Levy Yulee, an important person who helped build the Florida Railroad and later served as a United States senator from Florida.

Yulee is a place in Nassau County, Florida. It covers an area of 23.18 square miles (60.04 km2). It uses the 904 and 324 area codes and the ZIP codes 32041 and 32097.

Yulee had 14,195 people in the 2020 census. The average age was 41 years. About 22% were younger than 18 and 17.5% were aged 65 or older. There were slightly more males than females.

The area had 613 people per square mile, with 5,754 housing units. Most people lived in urban areas, and some lived in rural spots.

Most households were families, and the average household had almost three people. Many homes were owned, and some were rented. The median income for a family was $87,566, and about 12% of people lived below the poverty line. This included some younger people and older adults.

Climate

Yulee has a humid subtropical climate. This means it has mild winters and hot, humid summers. This climate is common in the southern Atlantic part of the United States. The area gets most of its rain from May through September. The driest time of year is between November and April. Because Yulee is near the coast, winters are usually mild and sunny.

Economy

Yulee has many fun outdoor festivals and events, with the big Holiday Festival and Parade being the most popular. The area has many places to eat, including restaurants and cafes, and some bars for evening fun. Yulee also has places for sports and fitness, like a sports complex and a gymnasium.

Yulee is home to two big golf courses, both with 18 holes. The Golf Club at North Hampton was helped designed by Arnold Palmer, and the Amelia National Golf and Country Club was designed by Tom Fazio.

Yulee is where the Nassau County Economic Development Board has its main office, working to bring new businesses to the area. The Nassau County Sheriff's Office is also based here. In 2017, the University of Florida planned to build two health and fitness centers. In 2018, a large energy company, Florida Public Utilities, decided to move to Yulee and build a big new headquarters.

There is a Florida Welcome Center in northern Yulee near the Georgia border on I-95. Visitors can get lots of information about travel and fun things to do in Florida, and they get to try a free cup of Florida juice, like orange or grapefruit.

In 2017, Rayonier built its new main office in Yulee and planned to develop a big pine forest area called Wildlight. This area will include homes, offices, schools, shops, and more. The Wildlight Elementary School opened in 2017 and can hold over 600 students.

Local government

Yulee has its own fire department. It gets help from two nearby fire stations run by Nassau County. The Yulee Volunteer Fire Department works with the county’s fire team for any fires.

The Nassau County Sheriff's Office keeps Yulee and all of Nassau County, Florida, safe. They make sure everyone follows the Florida Constitution and state laws and statutes. They also manage the jail and provide security for the courts. Their main office is at 76001 Bobby Moore Circle, Yulee, FL 32097.

Robert M. Foster Justice Center

The Robert M. Foster Justice Center in Yulee opened in 2004. It is bigger than the old Nassau County Courthouse in Fernandina Beach, Florida. It covers over 111,000 square feet.

Education

Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) has a campus in Yulee called the Betty P. Cook Nassau Center. This college is part of the Florida College System and offers many courses and programs. It also has a special Outdoor Education Center that is 16 acres big.

Public schools in Yulee and Nassau County are run by the Nassau County Public Schools system. There are also public primary schools such as Wildlight Elementary School, Yulee Elementary School, and Yulee Primary School.

Goffinsville Nassau River Park and Boat Ramp lets visitors fish, have picnics, and use restrooms and pavilions.

John Muir Ecological Park has a short trail to remember when John Muir walked across Florida in 1867.

Yulee Sports Complex and Gymnasium has baseball and softball fields, football fields, a building for activities, parking, play equipment, restrooms, picnic tables, and tennis and basketball courts.

Yulee, Florida has been home to several well-known people.

George Crady, born in 1931, was a politician who served in the Florida House of Representatives. Kyle Denney, born in 1977, used to play baseball for the Cleveland Indians in the Major League Baseball. Derrick Henry, born in 1994, is a famous football player who won a Heisman Trophy and now plays for the Baltimore Ravens. Apple Pope is a rugby player for the United States national rugby league team. D. J. Stewart, born in 1993, has played baseball for the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Zack Taylor lived from 1898 to 1974 and was a baseball player and manager for the St. Louis Browns.
