Šibenik-Knin County

Šibenik-Knin County is a special area, or county, in southern Croatia. It is found in the north-central part of a region called Dalmatia. The biggest city here is Šibenik, which is also where the leaders of the county work. Other important towns in the county include Knin, Vodice, Drniš, and Skradin.

The county covers an area of 2984 km². It is made up of 242 islands and includes beautiful places like the national parks Krka and Kornati. These areas are popular for visitors who enjoy nature and outdoor activities.

Administrative division

Šibenik-Knin County is divided into several towns and smaller areas. The largest city is Šibenik, which is also the main city of the county. Other important towns include Knin, Drniš, Skradin, and Vodice. There are also many smaller areas such as Biskupija, Civljane, Ervenik, Kijevo, Kistanje, Murter-Kornati, Pirovac, Primošten, Promina, Rogoznica, Ružić, Tisno, Unešić, Bilice, and Tribunj. Some of these smaller areas have their own main villages, like Oklaj for Promina and Gradac for Ružić. Tribunj was created in 2006 and was separated from Vodice.

County government

As of 2021^[update], the leader of Šibenik-Knin County is Marko Jelić, who is independent. The county assembly has 37 representatives, and their affiliations are shown below.

Demographics

According to the 2021 census, Šibenik-Knin County has a population of 96,381 people. Croats make up the majority with 88.60% of the population. The Serbs are the second largest ethnic group with 8.37%.

Before the war in 1991, Croats were the majority with 61.7% of the population, and Serbs made up 34.2% of the population.
