1998 Slovak presidential election
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
The 1998 Slovak Presidential elections took place between January 20 and December 17, 1998. During this time, Slovakia needed to choose a new president. To become president, a candidate had to get 90 votes from the Slovak parliament. However, the parliament could not agree on a new president. Because of this, Slovakia decided to hold a direct election in 1999, allowing all citizens to vote instead of just the parliament members. This was an important moment in Slovakia's history as it changed how the country chose its leader.
Voting
There were several votes to choose the new president of Slovakia in 1998. However, the parliament could not agree on a winner. Because of this, they decided to have a direct vote for president the next year. A person needed 90 votes to become president, but no one got that many during these early votes.
There were more than five rounds of voting, but no one was able to get enough votes. The final round of voting happened on December 17th, but still, no president was chosen.
