2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships

The 2013 Pan American Junior Championships was a big sports event for young athletes from across the Americas. It took place at the Estadio Alfonso Galvis Duque in Medellín, Colombia, from August 23 to 25. Originally, the event was supposed to happen earlier and in Lima, Peru, but it was moved because of other big competitions happening around the same time.

The United States did very well, winning fifteen gold medals and a total of thirty-eight medals. This continued their strong performance in these championships. Cuba and Canada also did well, with Cuba winning eight gold medals and Canada earning nineteen medals in total. Brazil and Mexico each won four gold medals, and the host country, Colombia, collected twelve medals. Athletes from twenty-one different countries won medals.

Some amazing records were broken during the competition. In the women's pole vault, Canada’s Alysha Newman and Venezuela’s Robeilys Peinado both cleared a height of 4.40 meters. American Megan Glasman set a new record in the javelin throw with a throw of 53.93 meters. Many talented athletes showed their skills, and some even won medals in two different events, making the 2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships a memorable competition for everyone.

Martínez and White-Edwards both had the same best jump of 16.49 m, but Martínez won the gold medal because his second-best jump was better (16.35 m to White-Edwards' 16.29 m).
