Jeffrey Mark Alexander, known as 22Gz, was born on November 29, 1997. He is an American rapper who helped start the Brooklyn drill music scene. In 2019, 22Gz released his first big mixtape called The Blixky Tape. This mixtape was put out by Atlantic Records. Through his music, 22Gz shared stories and sounds that came from his experiences and his community in Brooklyn.
Early life
Jeffrey Mark Alexander was born on November 29, 1997, in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. His father passed away before he was born. He is of Guyanese descent. He began his entertainment journey on the New York City Subway by performing showtime dance routines.
Career
22Gz began sharing songs on SoundCloud when he was 17 years old in 2015. His songs "Blixky" and "Suburban" became popular on YouTube, helping him grow a fan base. In 2018, he signed with Atlantic Records, a big music company, which helped him get noticed.
In July 2019, 22Gz released his first mixtape called The Blixky Tape with Atlantic Records. Later, on April 10, 2020, he released another mixtape named Growth & Development. A music writer from Hypebeast praised his energetic style and fast-rising popularity.
Legal issues
22Gz faced some serious legal troubles over the years. In 2014, he was charged with planning a murder, but these charges were later dropped. In 2017, he spent time in jail on charges related to a shooting in Miami, but those charges were also dropped later. In 2018, he even recorded a video from a police holding cell while waiting for his case to be resolved.
In 2019, 22Gz and some other artists were not allowed to perform at a big music event called the Rolling Loud concert because police thought there might be trouble if they played. Then, in June 2022, 22Gz was arrested in New York City for charges related to a shooting that happened earlier that year. He was allowed out of jail after paying a large amount of money for bail.
