Al-Ahliyya Amman University

Al-Ahliyya Amman University, often called AAU or Amman University, is a school in Amman, the capital city of Jordan. It opened its doors in 1990 and was the first private university in the country. Being private means it is not funded by the government, but by students and other supporters.

The university is recognized and approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Jordan. This ensures that the education provided there meets certain quality standards. AAU is also part of four different groups that connect universities together, allowing it to share ideas and support with other schools around the world.

History

Al-Ahliyya Amman University was the first private university in Jordan, starting in 1990. It began with schools of Law and Arts and Sciences, and later added more schools like Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences, Engineering, Information Technology, Nursing, Architecture, and Design.

The university began offering graduate programs in 2005-2006, starting with a master’s degree in law. More graduate programs followed in areas such as clinical psychology, pharmaceutical sciences, English literature, communications engineering, and business administration.

Structure and programmes

Al-Ahliyya Amman University has ten different schools, called faculties. These include Architecture and Design, Engineering, and Law, among others.

Students can choose from 31 different subjects to study for their first degree and also have 12 options for advanced studies after that. The school year has two main parts, each lasting 16 weeks, with an extra shorter part in the summer if they wish.

Deanship of Student Affairs

The Student Affairs Department started in 1990 when the university opened. In 1993, it became the Deanship of Student Affairs. This department helps students with many things, like clubs, sports, and career advice. They also arrange transportation, provide security, and offer places to stay. They even publish the school's newspaper called "Amman Al-Ahliyyah News".

Hourani eLearning Center

The Hourani eLearning Center helps students take online exams. After the exam, students can see their results right away, and the results can be saved for later. Special staff work with teachers to prepare and run these exams. The center also has an auditorium with video conferencing, which can connect to labs and people both nearby and far away.
