Angel City Football Club is an American professional soccer team based in Los Angeles, California. They play in the National Women's Soccer League, which is the top league for women’s soccer in the United States. The team was announced on July 21, 2020, and began playing in the 2022 season. Their best season so far was in 2023, when they made it to the playoffs but lost in the first round.
Angel City FC is special because it is the first women’s professional soccer team in the Los Angeles area since the Los Angeles Sol team stopped playing in 2010. Many famous people helped start and support the team. Some of the owners include Lilly Singh, Natalie Portman, America Ferrera, soccer legends Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach, actress Eva Longoria, and controlling owners Bob Iger and Willow Bay.
The team plays its home games at BMO Stadium, where fans come together to cheer them on. Angel City FC has brought excitement and attention to women’s soccer in Los Angeles and helped inspire more young players to chase their dreams in the sport.
History
On July 21, 2020, the NWSL announced that Los Angeles would get a new soccer team for the 2022 season. Many famous people joined to help start the team, including actress Natalie Portman, tennis player Serena Williams, and actor Jessica Chastain.
The team’s name, Angel City FC, was confirmed on October 21, 2020. In August 2022, they played their first friendly match against a team from Mexico and won 1-0. In 2023, they made the playoffs for the first time but lost in the first round. In July 2024, a big investment was made by Bob Iger and his wife, making Angel City FC the most valuable women’s sports team in the world.
Colors and crest
Angel City FC's official colors are "asphalt" and "armor" with "sol rosa" as an accent color, a special pink-tinted shade just for the club.
In June 2021, the club showed its crest with an angel with wings inspired by the Southern California red-tailed hawk and shaped like the area's palm trees. The top of the crest slopes at a 22-degree angle to remember when they started playing in 2022. Amedea Tassinari designed the crest.
The club worked with fans to design the colors, crest, and uniforms so they would represent Los Angeles well.
In October 2021, Angel City retired shirt number 22 to honor its founding year and the number of players on the field. The team sells shirts with the number 22 and gives 10 percent of the money to a charitable program managed by the California Community Foundation.
In November 2021, the club showed a black uniform called 'Dawn' made from recycled materials. The design includes hints of sol rosa, an art deco pattern, and the team's motto "Volemos" above player names. Their first away uniform, called 'Daylight', was shown in April 2022 and was only used in their first season. This white uniform, with black and sol rosa palm details inspired by Los Angeles palm trees, was created by art director and graphic designer Matthew Wolff.
In March 2023, Angel City released a new uniform with a print of the Los Angeles County coastline called 'Represent'.
Two new uniforms were shown on February 27, 2024. The black primary jersey, named 'Moonlight', has the wing from Angel City’s crest in a gritty asphalt-like texture. The secondary jersey is all sol rosa and pink and is named 'Sol'.

Sponsorship and revenue
Angel City FC made a big deal with DoorDash as their first main sponsor, which was the largest in the NWSL. In 2022, the team sold $6 million in merchandise, more than any other team in the league. That year, Angel City’s money made up 38.75% of all the money the NWSL made. By 2023, Angel City made about $31 million, almost twice as much as the next highest team.
