Anomalocarididae is an extinct family of Cambrian radiodonts, a fascinating group of early stem-group arthropods. These ancient sea creatures lived over 500 million years ago during a time when many unusual life forms first appeared in the oceans.

For a long time, scientists grouped all radiodonts under Anomalocarididae, calling them "anomalocaridids." But in 2014, new research changed this, narrowing the family to just a few close relatives of the genus Anomalocaris. Today, only species like Anomalocaris and Lenisicaris are considered true members of this family, while others have been moved to new groups.

Anomalocaridids had special features that set them apart from other radiodonts, such as a unique three-part mouth structure called a triradial oral cone. They shared many traits with other radiodont families, like streamlined bodies, swimming flaps, and a predatory lifestyle, making them important hunters in their ancient sea environments.
