Anthoptilidae
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Anthoptilidae is a family of sea pens, which are special kinds of animals that live deep in the ocean. These sea pens belong to a group called Sessiliflorae, which means they are fixed in one place and have flowers-like structures.
Scientists first described two main groups, or genera, within Anthoptilidae. The first is called Anthoptilum, which was named by Kölliker in 1880. The second is Benthoptillum, named by Verrill in 1885. These animals are part of the amazing variety of life that exists in the ocean, helping us understand how different species live and thrive in deep-sea environments.
