Antonietta Di Martino

Antonietta Di Martino (born 1 June 1978) is a retired Italian high jumper. She set records for the highest jumps in both outdoor and indoor events, with her outdoor record at 2.03 metres and her indoor record at 2.04 metres. She also holds a special record for jumping much higher than her own height.

Her international career began with a silver medal at the 2007 European Indoor Championships in Birmingham. That same year, she won another silver medal at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. After facing challenges at the Olympics in Beijing, she achieved more success, winning gold at the European Indoor Championships in 2011 in Paris and a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu. In 2012, she added another silver medal from the World Indoor Championships.

Biography

Antonietta Di Martino was born on 1 June 1978 in Cava de' Tirreni. She started playing athletics at age 12 and first tried the javelin throw before becoming a high jumper. In 2001, she joined the national team for heptathlon.

In 2007, Di Martino broke the Italian indoor high jump record with a jump of 2.00 metres. She won a silver medal at the 2007 European Indoor Championships and another silver at the 2007 World Championships with a jump of 2.03 metres.

After an injury in 2008, she returned in 2009 and won several competitions, including a gold medal at the 2010 European Team Championships and the 2011 European Indoor Championship. Her personal best outdoor jump is 2.03 metres, set in Milan in 2007, and her best indoor jump is 2.04 metres, set in Slovakia in 2011.

In April 2012, Di Martino hurt her knee and needed surgery, which stopped her from competing in the Olympic Games later that year.

National records

Antonietta Di Martino set the Italian record for high jump in outdoor events with a jump of 2.03 m. She achieved this in both Milan and Osaka in 2007. For indoor events, she set the record with a jump of 2.04 m in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, in February 2009. She is the current record holder for both these achievements.
