History
Barueri means "Red flower that amazes" in a Tupi–Guarani language. The history of Barueri began on November 11, 1560, when a chapel called Nossa Senhora Da Escada was built by a missionary named José de Anchieta. Later, in 1870, a railway called the Sorocabana Railway started operating, which helped Barueri become an important place connecting São Paulo, Santana de Parnaíba, and Pirapora do Bom Jesus.
Barueri was part of Santana de Parnaíba until it became its own city on December 24, 1948. In 1964, the city's size became smaller when Carapicuíba separated from it.
